The Aleppo Merchant Inn, located in the village of Carno on the main A470, makes an ideal location for touring and visiting the Mid Wales area.
The area has a number of local nature reserves, with nests of breeding Osprey, and summer visitors such as Pied Flycatchers and Redstarts making use of the oak woodlands. Raptors can be found throughout the year such as Red Kites and Hen Harriers. The coast is within an easy travelling distance which provides the opportunity to see waders and sea ducks; the higher moorlands have breeding waders in summer plumage, whilst Dipper breed along the local river.
A number of the nature reserves have special plants that attract butterflies and in addition, the water bodies attract Damselflies and Dragonflies. The closeness of these wildlife heavens make the Aleppo Merchant Inn a perfect location to stay for wildlife breaks in Mid Wales.
Local walks or a short drive from the Inn will open up a number of country walks off the beaten track, ideal for anyone that enjoys a map reading hike, where few other walkers (if any) will be seen.
Some of the main nature reserved located in the area are as follows:
